FSSAI Governs Every Food Import

Whether it's Italian olive oil, Korean noodles, health supplements or specialty beverages — food imports need an FSSAI Central Licence, per-consignment FICS clearance, and fully compliant labels. Fail sampling at the port and the consignment is destroyed or re-exported.

  • FSSAI Central Licence is mandatory for every commercial food importer
  • Each consignment clears through FICS (Food Import Clearance System) on ICEGATE
  • Labels must meet FSSAI Labelling & Display Regulations 2020 — nutrition table, allergens, veg/non-veg mark
  • Health Certificate from origin authority required for most categories
  • Dairy, meat and organic categories need additional certificates and attract higher scrutiny

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FICS and how does it affect my shipments?
Every food consignment is filed through the Food Import Clearance System linked to your Bill of Entry. FSSAI may clear on documents or draw samples for lab testing — sampling adds 3–7 working days, which we build into your delivery planning.
Do my labels need to be in Hindi?
No — mandatory declarations must be in English in the prescribed format, including the nutrition table, allergen statements and the veg/non-veg symbol. We review labels before printing.
Can you handle chilled and frozen imports?
Yes — reefer sea containers and cold-chain air freight, with temperature-controlled customs examination coordinated at Mumbai ports.
My product contains a novel ingredient. Is that a problem?
Possibly — ingredients outside FSSAI’s approved lists need prior product approval before import. Our pre-import permissibility check catches this before you commit to stock.
