India's Three-Regulator Wall for Electronics

BIS registration under the Compulsory Registration Scheme, WPC Equipment Type Approval for anything wireless, and EPR registration for e-waste responsibility. All three portals, all three timelines, one coordinated project — that's how we run it.

BIS — Compulsory Registration Scheme

• Applies to notified electronics — IT hardware, appliances, LED products, batteries and more
• Testing only at BIS-empanelled laboratories (3–6 weeks)
• Registration valid 2 years, renewable; surveillance obligations apply
• Total pathway: roughly 3–4 months — samples should ship the day the project starts

WPC — Equipment Type Approval

• Mandatory for any RF capability: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, NFC, LoRa, GPS transmit
• Standard ETA: 2–3 months including RF testing
• ETA Waiver for eligible licence-exempt low-power devices: 3–4 weeks — we assess eligibility first, it can save two months

EPR — E-Waste Responsibility

• CPCB registration mandatory for importers of electronics and batteries — no volume threshold
• Annual returns due each year; recycling targets escalate
• Fastest of the three (3–6 weeks) — start it immediately
